A traveller who returned to France from Angola and presented with clinical symptoms and serological signs compatible with Zika virus was reported in the 15 December 2016 situation report. A second patient in Angola presented with signs and symptoms compatible with Zika virus infection and was confirmed by two positive PCR results at the end of December. Samples were sent to a reference laboratory for sequencing and confirmation. The individual reported no recent travel history.
WHO encourages Member States to continue to report similar findings to support the global understanding of Zika virus circulation and associated complications.
